SDEC at Weston General Hospital- Weekday Professional Line

WGH SDEC OVERVIEW

Opening times 08:00 - 22:00 - Latest arrival time 19:00 (same times in the week/on weekends/bank holidays)

If you identify a suitable patient, this can be now added to your 2-line summary as it would for the other SDECs.  

Location: as patients enter the hospital via the ED entrance, the door to SDEC is immediately to the right and sign-posted 'Same Day Emergency Care'. Please note that it is not only medical SDEC patients that are seen here - there are also surgical and oncology patients in this area.

Inclusion Criteria 

Ambulant patients able to sit in a chair/ recliner chair.

Over 16 years old.

Exclusion Criteria

NEWS above 5 (or 3 in any one parameter)*

  • except with consultant discretion

Patients clearly expected to require medical admission

Patients with any of the following presentations or characteristics:

  • current diarrhoea/ vomiting or history of this in the preceding 48 hrs
  • patients with suspected infectious rash or infectious respiratory condition
  • unstable presentations
  • new oxygen requirement
  • confused patients or those with an Acute MH presentation
  • acute cerebral events - includes ?sub-arachnoid haemorrhage (refer into main medical take).
  • PR bleeding
  • EOL Care

Chest Pain Presentations with associated:

  • ongoing cardiac sounding chest pain
  • abnormal ECG findings of ST depression, deep TWI, R heart strain, STEMI criteria
  • Chest pain assoc. with Heart failure
  • Chest pain assoc. with Syncope

Presentations suitable for Weston medical SDEC:

Rule out troponins, now pain free/or deemed to be low risk for an ischaemic event, without the above concerns would be suitable for SDEC.

The Weston SDEC team can accommodate IV Iron and blood transfusions depending on clinical urgency.

The team can accommodate some drain management (ascitic/pleural) - call ahead if unsure that they can manage that day.

The SDEC team can arrange ECGs on arrival at WGH if this has not been done in the community.

  • Seated waiting area for SDEC patients
  • 14 clinical assessment bays
