The Safe Haven Centre has opened its remote service in Weston-super-Mare.
We are pleased to confirm Second Step have now opened The Safe Haven Centre for GP and self- referrals for remote appointments with face to face services available from 22 February.

What could a client expect when visiting the Safe Haven Centre?
The Safe Haven is a safe space offering people warm, friendly support from the moment they walk in. Co-designed and created with people with lived experience of dealing with a mental health crisis, the atmosphere is all important.
The client will be greeted by one of our team who will help them feel they have all the time they need to explain why they are there and what they need. Clients will have the choice of having this conversation in our more open plan space as well as in one of our more private side rooms.
We aim to support people through their immediate crisis. Our team of trained, experienced recovery navigators will help clients work through their immediate concerns. Early interventions will include activities such as arts and crafts, games and talking one-to-one. Other support may include small interventions such as having a cup of tea and a chat or going for a walk if safe to do so.
Recovery navigators can see people for up to two weeks.
Once our volunteers are in place, they will follow up with calls of support.
What covid-19 measures are in place to keep clients safe?
- Social distancing measures will be implemented in the centre alongside personal protective equipment with hand sanitiser available throughout the building.
- The centre has a new air conditioning unit to support good ventilation.
- Private meeting rooms will be sanitised after each use.
- Track and Trace will be implemented within the service.
Anyone who is registered to a Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire GP surgery and aged 16 years and over can refer themselves into the service or be referred by a GP or other healthcare provider.
Referrals can be made via emailing the Safe Haven Referral Form to email@example.com. Referral details include urgency of contact (within 24 hours, 24-48 hours, within 7 days) and purpose of referral. While the team will endeavour to meet these timeframes, they are suggested and not guaranteed. Referrals made before 17.00 where a request for contact within 24 hours is made may be contacted on the same day. Clients are also able to self-refer by contacting the Safe Haven Centre on 01934 313 480 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
