We suggest avoiding initiating detox in the community without the support of specialist services during the out of hours period. Evidence supports a planned detox with appropriate monitoring and holistic care. This leads to a safer experience which is more effective with longer lasting results.
BNSSG guidance
BNSSG guidance on Remedy includes acute withdrawal, information about detox in primary care and referral guidance specific to each area. As above, we do not anticipate that clinicians will initiate community detox from OOH because of the training and monitoring requirements.
