Acute Frailty Unit (GEMS Unit) at WGH general information

The GEMS unit is based next to ED. If a patient is directed to GEMS, please put “SUITABLE FOR GEMS IF CAPACITY” on your medical take summary and direct to ED reception.

Patient needs to arrive by 14:30 on monday/tuesday and 5pm on wed/thursday/friday, otherwise consider booking for the next morning (make this clear on the medical take list) or direct to the main medical take.

 

INCLUSION CRITERIA:

Age >75

NEWS  ≤3

Presenting with a frailty-related condition eg.

  • Falls
  • reduced mobility
  • increased/new confusion

 

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

?covid-19

Alternative pathway more suitable eg. stroke, chest pain
