Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis (SBE)

Updated on 28th November 2022

The following SBE NICE Guidance are helpful in determining those patients who may be at risk of developing SBE.

At present prophylaxis for procedures is not  generally recommended, but prompt treatment of bacterial infection is indicated in patients at risk of SBE as defined by the guidance attached.

Most patients at risk of SBE are fully aware of this as have been informed to be vigilant and seek prompt care by their cardiologist/GP, though clearly this cannot be relied upon and does not replace clinical judgement and assessment.
