Hypocalcaemia (Low Calcium)

Basic Guidance on treatment of hypocalcaemia (adjusted normal range 2.13-2.63)

  • Try to identify an underlying cause
  • Check magnesium (think about PPIs) – and correct first.
  • Ideally check Vit D and PTH before initiating treatment.
  • <1.9 admit for Calcium Gluconate IV
  • >1.9 – 2.3 if symptomic Admit otherwise Calci_D 1 tablet BD and monitor Ca+ levels weekly.
