The Moorfields Eye Hospital has produced a concise advice booklet about Common Eye Conditions in Primary Care.

It includes information about the assessment and management of the following:

  • Conjunctivitis
  • Dry eyes
  • Blepharitis
  • Chalazion (Meibomian cyst)
  • Stye
  • Corneal abrasion
  • Corneal foreign body
  • Subtarsal foreign body
  • Subconjunctival haemorrhage
  • Episcleritis
  • Please review the page “When to refer to the ophthalmic department” which clearly divides conditions into categories; those requiring immediate referral, referral within 24 hours or referral within one week, and conditions which can usually be managed in Primary Care.
