Ascites (ascitic drains)

For known liver patients, there are ascitic drain slots available for patients with cirrhosis or HCC via the liver nurses -refer by emailing address below (All other ascitic drain patients need to be admitted for paracentesis in Radiology)

For malignant ascites, there is a service at BHOC

BRI

For patients not known to Oncology - please call the Hepatology SpR on call. They carry a bleep Monday - Friday. (If it is not possible to speak to them call the acute medical consultant for a discussion about when would be best for the patient to be admitted).
