Refugees / Asylum Seeker Healthcare

Primary care  & Accommodation services supporting Migrant Health in BNSSG

There are 3 main types of interim accommodation schemes for migrants in BNSSG:

  1. ARAP - Afghan Resettlement & Assistance policy Afghan Relocation Policy
  2. Asylum Seeker/ refugee interim accomodation centres ( mainly hotels)
  3. Homes from Ukraine scheme Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Policy

The Haven

The Haven is a specialist primary healthcare service for asylum seekers & refugees. Patient can be referred or can self refer- see website link.

Those in interim accommodation 1 & 2 above are being supported initially by the Haven and to register at the following BNSSG GP surgeries:

  • Bristol : Montpelier Health Centre, Broadmead Medical Centre, Bridge View Medical Centre
  • N. Somerset:  Mendip Vale Medical Group -Pudding Pie Lane
  • S Gloucs: Bradley Stoke Surgery, Concorde Medical Centre, Coniston Medical Centre.

Those fleeing from Ukraine should register within a GP surgery within their practice boundary area, as per the usual process.

Urgent Care and Migrant Health

Hotel teams ( contacts above) conduct welfare checks and support residents in calling 111.  The Haven has a in-reach service for initial support for new arrivals.

Residents have access to AWP crisis team.

Most patients will have mobiles, but for those that do not phones are made available for them to contact GPs, Migrant Help or their legal representatives.

If unable to contact the patient directly the above numbers could be tried as an alternative.

National Referral Mechanism to report Trafficking A process set up by the government to identify and support victims of trafficking in the UK.
