Diabetic Foot Ulcer

Updated on 22nd February 2025

If a patient needs immediate referral for a life or limb threatening foot condition, please contact the Vascular on call team at Southmead Hospital via NBT Switchboard (0117 9505050).

All patients with diabetes who present with non-life or limb threatening active foot conditions, including Charcot arthropathy, should be referred within 1 working day to the community podiatry team. Any HCP can refer a patient and referrals will be triaged within 1 working day.

The community podiatry team will escalate the referral for review in the secondary care diabetic foot service (7952085 Diabetic Foot Service RAS – Southmead Hospital) as required based on red flags in the referral or limited community capacity.
