IUC Clinical Co-ordinator Handbook

Updated on 25th March 2026

It is important that all clinicians feel supported on shift.

The Clinical Coordinator (CC) GP is your usual point of contact for clinical advice and support on shift, especially for more complex clinical situations. We are, of course, happy for all clinicians to offer support and advice if asked to do so. To a degree, we all have a duty to be open to that, especially with colleagues in the same room or base. However, if you are telephoning for advice (eg as a remote working clinician, or from a visiting car), then please contact the CC. Similarly, the operational team will ensure that any clinical or oversight/ clinical leadership discussions are with the CC, rather than other clinicians on shift.

If you are asked to cover the CC role/ function for part of your shift, the rota will be amended to reflect this.

The Clinical Coordinator (until 11pm on weekday evenings, and 8am-11pm at weekends/ bank holidays), can be contacted by ringing the Shift Manager, Please see the Telephone Directory for contact information.

Please note that overnight there is no CC. During this period, the CC functions are shared amongst all clinicians on shift.

This CC handbook is a useful resource to support these shifts. If you are interested in undertaking CC work, we are happy to arrange a paired shift with one of the GP leads for the service – please contact the rota team.
